Sorrento SPC Rigid-Core Plank starts at $3.99 per square foot installed in Fort Myers — a warm taupe floor from Maxxi Floors’ Extreme Collection built to handle what Southwest Florida puts underfoot. At 7 mm thick with a 22-mil wear layer and a generous 9″ × 72″ plank format, it reads like a real wood floor without any of the moisture anxiety. Flooring Queen carries and installs it throughout the region.
Sorrento is sized for open living spaces — the wide, long planks suit great rooms, dining areas, master bedrooms, and whole-home installs where you want visual continuity. The rigid SPC core won’t buckle or swell when humidity spikes, which matters in a region where interior moisture levels swing hard between rainy season and air-conditioned winter months.
The 22-mil wear layer is thick enough for active households. Tile and grout joints in the subfloor below? Not a problem — SPC’s rigid core bridges minor imperfections that would telegraph through softer vinyl. For homes close to the coast in Cape Coral or the barrier islands, the waterproof construction means salt air and tracked-in sand won’t shorten the floor’s life.

Flooring Queen installs Sorrento at $3.99 per square foot, all in. That price covers delivery, removal of your current flooring, standard subfloor preparation, the install itself, new baseboards, and transition strips between rooms. Old flooring gets removed and cleared from the property — you won’t be stuck with a pile of debris.
A few things run extra: significant subfloor leveling beyond routine prep, stair nosing, diagonal or herringbone layouts, and decorative inlay borders. None of that is unusual for a full-home project. Call or schedule online and Flooring Queen will send a measurer to your home — the visit is free and you’ll walk away with a written quote before committing to anything.
Sorrento and engineered hardwood both aim for a wood-floor look in a wide-plank format, but they handle Florida’s climate very differently. Sorrento’s SPC core is 100% waterproof — a spill left overnight won’t damage the planks or the subfloor below. Engineered hardwood tolerates humidity swings better than solid wood, but it still has a real wood veneer that can swell, cup, or stain if water sits on it.
Engineered hardwood wins on one point: it can be lightly sanded and refinished once or twice, extending its visual life if the surface gets worn. Sorrento can’t be refinished — when the wear layer is gone, the floor is done. For most Southwest Florida households, though, the waterproof construction and lower installed cost are the more practical trade-off.
| Sorrento | Engineered Hardwood | |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | Fully waterproof — core and all | Water-resistant surface, not waterproof |
| Scratch resistance / wear layer | 22-mil wear layer; not refinishable | Thinner aluminum-oxide coat; can refinish |
| Comfort underfoot | Rigid core; firm, not soft | Real wood feel; slightly warmer |
| Installed price | $3.99 / sq ft installed | ~$8.99 / sq ft installed |
| Best room | Any room, including wet areas | Dry living areas; avoid baths |
Sweep or dry-mop Sorrento regularly to keep sand and grit from working into the wear layer — fine debris tracked in from outside is the main source of surface dulling over time. Damp-mop with a pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner such as Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner; avoid oil soaps, wax-based products, and anything acidic. Never use a steam mop — the sustained heat and moisture can compromise the click joints and the adhesive in the planks over time. A walk-off mat at each entry cuts cleaning frequency considerably. For technical guidance, see the National Wood Flooring Association consumer hardwood information.
Sorrento is fully waterproof — the SPC rigid core does not absorb water, so standing water on the surface won’t damage the planks themselves. The main caveat is the subfloor below: if water finds its way through seams at the perimeter and soaks into a wood subfloor, that subfloor can still be affected. Keep baseboards caulked and wipe up large puddles when you can.
The 22-mil wear layer on Sorrento is one of the thicker options in residential SPC, and it handles normal dog-claw traffic well without showing surface scratches quickly. Accidents clean up completely since the core is waterproof — urine won’t soak in or leave an odor behind. Trim nails regularly and put felt pads under furniture to get the most out of the wear layer.
Sorrento handles seasonal vacancy better than wood-based floors do. The SPC core is dimensionally stable and doesn’t expand or contract significantly with humidity cycling the way engineered hardwood or laminate can. Keep the AC set to at least 78°F while you’re away to control moisture — that’s good practice for any floor material in a closed-up Florida home.
Sorrento works on any grade — slab-on-grade, above-grade, and below-grade installs are all fine, which suits most Florida homes. It’s at home in living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms. The one honest limitation is stairs: the planks are designed for flat surfaces, and stair-nosing pieces add cost and complexity, so some homeowners choose a different material for stair treads.
Flooring Queen installs Sorrento throughout the Fort Myers area and the broader Southwest Florida region, including Cape Coral and Naples. If you’re unsure whether your address falls in the service area, just call or use the online form — scheduling a free in-home measure is the fastest way to confirm coverage and get a firm quote.
In many cases Sorrento can float directly over existing hard-surface floors like ceramic tile, as long as the surface is flat, firmly bonded, and the added height won’t create a problem at doorways or transitions. Loose tiles, cracked grout, or significant lippage usually need to be addressed first. The measurer will check the existing conditions and let you know exactly what prep is needed before installation starts.
