Metal Gray SPC Rigid-Core Plank starts at $3.99/sq ft installed in Fort Myers — a cool-toned gray floor from CPF Floors’ Deco54 8mm collection that reads like brushed metal without the cold underfoot feel. The wide 9″×54″ plank format keeps grout lines out of the picture and lets the gray tones flow continuously across a room. It’s a practical choice for households that want a modern industrial look without sacrificing durability.
Southwest Florida homes are tough on flooring. Concrete slab foundations mean no airspace underneath, humidity pushes through in summer, and salt air accelerates the wear on anything that isn’t fully sealed. Metal Gray’s 100% waterproof rigid core handles all of that without swelling, cupping, or delaminating — a real advantage over wood-based products in this climate.
The 22-mil wear layer and 8mm total thickness make it a strong candidate for high-traffic areas: main living spaces, kitchens, busy hallways, and rental or snowbird properties that sit empty part of the year and then absorb heavy use the next.

Flooring Queen installs Metal Gray at $3.99 per square foot, and that number covers a full-service job: product delivery, removal of your existing floor covering, standard subfloor cleaning and prep, angle-angle click installation, baseboard reinstallation, transition strips between adjoining rooms, and cleanup and debris removal when the crew is done.
Costs that fall outside the base rate include significant subfloor leveling (more than minor high spots), stair nosing, or any custom-cut border or pattern work. Schedule a free in-home measure and you’ll receive a written room-by-room quote before any work begins — no surprises on the final invoice.
Waterproof laminate and SPC rigid-core look similar on a spec sheet — both click together, both come in plank format, and both carry water-resistant marketing language. The real difference is in the core. Metal Gray’s stone-plastic composite core is dimensionally stable even when submerged; most waterproof laminates use a dense fiberboard core that resists surface spills but can still swell if water reaches the seams or edges over time. That makes SPC the more reliable choice around pet water bowls, Florida rain tracked in through an entryway, or any room near plumbing.
Where laminate sometimes wins: it can feel slightly softer underfoot and occasionally offers a more convincing wood-grain texture at a comparable price point. But for Southwest Florida’s humidity and slab conditions, the SPC core is the more sensible call.
| Metal Gray | Waterproof Laminate | |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | Fully waterproof rigid core | Resistant at surface; edges vulnerable |
| Scratch resistance / wear layer | 22-mil commercial-grade wear layer | Varies; typically AC3–AC4 rating |
| Comfort underfoot | 2mm HD EVA pad attached | Often softer feel; varies by product |
| Installed price | $3.99/sq ft installed | $4.50/sq ft installed |
| Best room | Any room, including wet-risk areas | Dry living areas; avoid bathrooms |
Sweep or dry-mop Metal Gray regularly to clear the fine grit and sand that Southwest Florida homes track in — abrasive particles left on the surface are what gradually dull the wear layer. For damp mopping, use a pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner such as Bona Stone, Tile & Laminate or a diluted dish-soap solution on a well-wrung mop. Avoid steam mops entirely — the sustained heat and pressurized moisture can weaken the click joints and the attached EVA pad over time. Steer clear of abrasive scrubbers, wax-based polishes, and solvent cleaners, which leave a residue that attracts more dirt. For technical guidance, see the World Floor Covering Association vinyl flooring guide.
Metal Gray’s stone-plastic composite core is genuinely waterproof — prolonged standing water won’t cause the plank itself to swell or warp. That said, if water consistently seeps under the floor through gaps at walls or transitions, the subfloor beneath can still be affected. Keep perimeter caulking intact and transition strips properly seated.
The 22-mil wear layer on Metal Gray is well above the residential minimum, and it handles dog nails on everyday foot-traffic patterns without cutting through to the decorative layer. Accidents clean up with a damp cloth — the waterproof core means urine won’t reach the subfloor if wiped promptly. Extremely sharp nails on large breeds can still leave marks over time.
SPC (stone-plastic composite) has a denser, more rigid core than standard LVP, which makes it more resistant to dents from heavy furniture and less likely to expand or contract with temperature swings. Metal Gray is SPC, so it performs better on Florida slabs where heat builds in summer. The trade-off is that it’s slightly less forgiving of very uneven subfloors.
Quality SPC vinyl plank is broadly accepted by SWFL buyers and is considered a neutral-to-positive upgrade over worn carpet or dated tile. It won’t appraise the same as hardwood, but in a market where humidity and flooding risk are real concerns, a waterproof floor is a practical selling point rather than a compromise.
Metal Gray works well in living rooms, kitchens, hallways, laundry rooms, and bathrooms — the waterproof core covers all of those. The angle-angle installation is a floating system, so it’s not glued down and isn’t recommended for commercial spaces with very heavy rolling loads. There are no grade restrictions — slab, above-grade, and below-grade installs are all suitable.
In many cases, yes — the angle-angle floating installation doesn’t require bonding to the existing surface, so it can go over structurally sound tile or vinyl as long as the substrate is flat within acceptable tolerances. Loose, cracked, or significantly uneven tiles usually need to be addressed first. Your in-home measure will flag any prep work before the quote is finalized.
