Specifications

Sugar Loaf SPC Rigid-Core Plank starts at $3.99 per square foot installed in Fort Myers — a honey-toned wood-look floor from Neptune’s Synergy Mixed Widths collection that layers three plank widths for a natural, low-repeat visual that reads like real hardwood.

What Sugar Loaf SPC Rigid-Core Plank is built for

The mixed-width format — 4.84″, 6.92″, and 8.78″ planks in a single box — mimics how timber actually gets milled, which matters in open-plan Fort Myers homes where a single-width floor can look monotonous. The 100% waterproof rigid core shrugs off the humidity swings and occasional splashes that come with Florida living, and the attached sound-absorbent pad keeps it quiet over the concrete slab foundations common throughout Southwest Florida.

The 22 mil wear layer is thick enough for household pets, active families, and rental properties where the floor takes real punishment. GREENGUARD Gold certification means indoor air quality stays clean — useful year-round, but especially relevant in the tightly sealed homes that make the most of Florida’s air conditioning.

Installed pricing in Fort Myers & Southwest Florida

Sugar Loaf installs for $3.99 per square foot, a complete price that covers delivery, removal of your current flooring, subfloor cleaning and minor prep work, the floating click install, baseboard reinstallation, transition strips at doorways, and debris removal once the crew wraps up.

A few things fall outside that base rate: significant subfloor leveling beyond normal prep, stair nosing where the floor meets a staircase, and any custom inlays or decorative border work. Flooring Queen offers a free in-home measurement visit and will put the full project cost in writing before any work begins — so there are no surprises on invoice day.

How Sugar Loaf SPC Rigid-Core Plank compares

Sugar Loaf and engineered hardwood chase the same honey-wood aesthetic, but they behave differently once they’re on the floor. The SPC rigid core is 100% waterproof all the way through — spills, pet accidents, and the high ambient humidity of coastal Southwest Florida won’t cause swelling or cupping. Engineered hardwood tolerates some moisture but has real limits; repeated humidity cycling can cause the wood veneer to check or gap over time.

Where engineered hardwood has the edge is authenticity — the surface is real wood, and on thicker constructions it can be lightly sanded and refinished once. Sugar Loaf can’t be refinished, but its 22 mil wear layer outlasts most engineered veneer thicknesses in day-to-day traffic without showing wear.

Care & maintenance

Sweep or vacuum regularly to keep grit from grinding into the finish — use a hard-floor setting or a soft-bristle head rather than a beater bar. Damp-mop with a pH-neutral cleaner such as Bona Stone, Tile & Laminate or a product specifically labeled safe for SPC vinyl; avoid anything acidic or abrasive. Never use a steam mop on this floor — the heat and pressure can compromise the locking joints and the attached pad over time. Wipe spills promptly even though the core is waterproof, since standing water at seams over long periods can work its way into the subfloor below. For technical guidance, see the World Floor Covering Association vinyl flooring guide.

Frequently asked questions

Will standing water actually damage this floor, or is ‘waterproof’ a marketing term?

Sugar Loaf is genuinely waterproof through the entire rigid core — water will not cause the plank itself to swell, warp, or delaminate. That said, prolonged pooling at seams can eventually reach the subfloor underneath, so mopping up larger spills promptly is still good practice.

My dogs are rough on floors — will this hold up to claws and accidents?

The 22 mil wear layer on Sugar Loaf is one of the thicker residential grades available and handles everyday claw traffic without showing scratches quickly. Pet urine cleans up without staining or odor absorption since the core is non-porous, though wiping it up before it sits is always the better move.

What rooms work well with this, and are there any spots in the house where it shouldn’t go?

Sugar Loaf installs as a floating floor and works on any grade — on-grade slab, above-grade, or below-grade — making it suitable for virtually every room in a Florida home, including bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms. The only space where you’d reconsider is outdoors or in areas with direct sun exposure all day, which can cause thermal expansion beyond the floor’s tolerance.

How long will the installation actually take for my house?

A single average-sized room typically takes one day with Flooring Queen’s crew. A full home — say 1,200 to 1,500 square feet — usually runs two to three days depending on layout complexity, the number of transitions between rooms, and how much furniture needs to move. The Tight Lock tap-down system installs efficiently without adhesive.

I leave my Fort Myers home empty most of the year — will this floor be okay sitting closed up in the summer heat?

SPC rigid-core construction handles the temperature and humidity swings of a seasonally unoccupied Florida home better than wood-based floors because the stone-plastic composite core doesn’t absorb moisture or dry out. Setting the AC to 78–80°F while you’re away keeps the indoor environment stable and is all the maintenance the floor needs during the off-season.

Can this go directly over my existing tile without pulling it up first?

In many cases, yes — Sugar Loaf’s floating Tight Lock system can go over existing hard-surface floors as long as the surface is flat, firmly bonded, and the added height at doorways and transitions is acceptable. Loose tiles, cracked grout, or significant height variation need to be addressed first, which is one reason we measure the existing floor carefully before writing your quote.
