Urban Design 20 – Sydney SPC Rigid-Core Plank starts at $3.99/sq ft installed in Fort Myers — a warm beige floor built for the way Southwest Florida homes actually live. Happy Feet’s Urban Design 20™ collection puts a 20 mil wear layer on a 100% virgin vinyl white core, giving you a clean, neutral plank that works as a solid foundation for any coastal or contemporary interior.
Sydney’s glue-down construction makes it a natural fit for the concrete slab foundations common throughout Southwest Florida. Glue-down installs resist the minor flexing that can pop floating floors loose in high-humidity conditions, and the 100% virgin vinyl core won’t swell when the air gets thick during hurricane season.
The 20 mil wear layer holds up in high-traffic entryways, kitchens, and open living areas alike. For seasonal or rental properties, the durability and easy cleanup make Sydney a practical call — beige tones hide everyday tracked-in sand and dust better than darker colorways.

Flooring Queen installs Urban Design 20 – Sydney at $3.99 per square foot, and that price is all-in for most standard jobs. It covers removal and disposal of your existing floor covering, adhesive and material prep, the plank installation itself, new baseboard reinstallation, and any transition strips between rooms.
Extras that fall outside the base price include heavy subfloor leveling work, stair nosing, or anything requiring custom cuts and decorative borders. Schedule a free in-home measurement and you’ll walk away with a written quote scoped to your actual square footage — no guesswork on the final number.
Urban Design 20 – Sydney and engineered hardwood can land in similar rooms with similar beige-toned visuals, but they handle Southwest Florida’s conditions very differently. Sydney is fully waterproof at the core — adhesive moisture from the slab isn’t a concern the way it is with a wood-based product. Engineered hardwood can tolerate some humidity variation, but swelling and warping are real risks in slab-on-grade homes without a proper moisture barrier.
Where engineered hardwood has a clear edge: it’s real wood on the surface and can be lightly refinished if scratched. Sydney’s 20 mil wear layer is tough, but once it’s worn through, the plank is replaced, not sanded. Engineered hardwood also tends to feel warmer underfoot than a 2.5mm vinyl plank.
| Urban Design 20 – Sydney | Engineered Hardwood | |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | Waterproof vinyl core | Moisture-sensitive; can warp on slabs |
| Scratch resistance / wear layer | 20 mil aluminum oxide finish | Wood veneer; refinishable if scratched |
| Comfort underfoot | Firm; minimal give at 2.5mm | Warmer, slightly more resilient feel |
| Installed price | $3.99/sq ft installed | ~$8.99/sq ft installed |
| Best room | Kitchens, baths, rentals, high-traffic areas | Bedrooms, formal living rooms, low-moisture spaces |
Sweep or vacuum Urban Design 20 – Sydney regularly to keep grit from working against the wear layer — skip the beater bar attachment and use a hard-floor setting instead. For damp mopping, a pH-neutral vinyl cleaner such as Bona Stone, Tile & Laminate or a manufacturer-approved SPC cleaner is the right call; avoid anything acidic or solvent-based. Do not use steam mops on this floor — the heat and pressurized moisture can soften the adhesive bond beneath a glue-down installation over time, which is a repair nobody wants. Wipe spills promptly even though the core is waterproof. For technical guidance, see the World Floor Covering Association vinyl flooring guide.
Urban Design 20 – Sydney has a waterproof vinyl core, so standing water won’t swell or buckle the plank itself. That said, water that sits under the adhesive bond long enough can compromise the glue. Catching leaks early protects the install even though the plank material is fully waterproof.
A 20 mil wear layer is one of the thicker commercial-grade options available in residential vinyl, and it handles pet nails, claws, and active dogs significantly better than thinner 6–12 mil products. Cleanup is easy too — the vinyl surface doesn’t absorb pet accidents, so a quick damp wipe is all it takes.
SPC stands for stone plastic composite — the core contains limestone powder, which makes it denser and more dimensionally stable than a standard LVP core. Urban Design 20 – Sydney is SPC, so it resists denting from heavy furniture and holds up better on slabs where minor temperature swings are common. Standard LVP cores are softer and can flex more underfoot.
At 7 inches wide and 48 inches long, Sydney reads as a broader plank that makes smaller rooms appear less busy and larger rooms feel more grounded. Fewer seams means a calmer visual field — a good fit for open-plan living areas. Narrower boards tend to add more visual texture and suit traditional or cottage-style spaces better.
Flooring Queen installs Urban Design 20 – Sydney throughout the broader Southwest Florida market, including Cape Coral and Bonita Springs along with Fort Myers and surrounding communities. Call or book online to confirm service in your specific neighborhood and schedule a measurement visit.
Glue-down SPC like Sydney doesn’t use a separate floating underlayment, which can complicate HOA acoustic requirements that specify an IIC or STC rating. You’ll want to pull your association’s specific rules before ordering — some boards accept an approved adhesive mat system, while others require a floating floor format. Flooring Queen can walk you through what your board is likely to accept.
