Specifications

Hazel SPC Rigid-Core Plank starts at $3.99 per square foot installed in Fort Myers — a natural-toned floor from Maxxi Floors’ Summer Collection built to live well in the Florida climate. At 6.5 mm thick with a 20 mil wear layer, it brings real durability to the rigid-core vinyl category. This is a practical, good-looking plank for homeowners who want low maintenance without sacrificing a warm, wood-like aesthetic.

What Hazel SPC Rigid-Core Plank is built for

Hazel is designed for the realities of Southwest Florida living. Its rigid stone-polymer core won’t expand and contract with humidity swings the way wood-based floors can, making it a reliable choice over concrete slabs — the most common foundation type in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, and surrounding coastal communities. Salt air, tracked-in sand, and wet feet from the pool are all par for the course here, and Hazel handles them without complaint.

The 20 mil wear layer makes it a strong candidate for high-traffic areas, rental properties, and snowbird homes that sit closed and humid for months at a time. It works equally well in primary residences and investment properties.

Installed pricing in Fort Myers & Southwest Florida

Flooring Queen installs Hazel at $3.99 per square foot, with no hidden line items for the standard scope. That price covers delivery, pulling up your existing floor covering, standard surface preparation, the installation itself, baseboards, and transition strips between rooms. Old material gets hauled off the property as part of the job.

Certain conditions add cost: significant subfloor leveling beyond minor skim work, stair nosing on multi-level homes, and specialty patterns or custom borders are all quoted as upcharges. Not sure what your project will need? Flooring Queen offers a free in-home measurement and a written quote before any commitment is made.

How Hazel SPC Rigid-Core Plank compares

Shoppers often weigh SPC rigid-core vinyl against waterproof laminate because both offer a wood look, a click-lock install, and strong scratch resistance at a similar price point. The meaningful difference is the core. Hazel’s stone-polymer composite core is genuinely waterproof — a flooded laundry room or a slow leak under a dishwasher won’t ruin it. Most waterproof laminates resist surface moisture well but can swell at the edges if water penetrates seams and sits for any length of time.

On the other hand, some homeowners find that laminate has a slightly more realistic wood texture underfoot. If water intrusion isn’t a concern and texture matters most, laminate is worth a look. For any room near plumbing, or in a Florida home where humidity is a constant, Hazel’s SPC core is the safer call.

Care & maintenance

Sweep or dust-mop Hazel regularly to keep grit from acting like sandpaper on the wear layer — a soft-bristle attachment on your vacuum works fine, but skip the beater bar setting. For damp mopping, use a pH-neutral cleaner such as Bona Stone, Tile & Laminate or a vinyl-specific formula; avoid anything acidic, oil-based, or abrasive. Steam mops are off-limits for SPC floors — the heat and pressure can compromise the locking joints over time and may void coverage under your warranty. Wipe spills promptly and keep furniture legs padded to protect the surface. For technical guidance, see the World Floor Covering Association vinyl flooring guide.

Frequently asked questions

Will standing water actually damage this floor, or is it just water-resistant on the surface?

Hazel’s SPC core is fully waterproof — standing water on the surface won’t penetrate the plank itself. That said, water that works its way beneath the floor through gaps at walls or thresholds can cause issues with the subfloor underneath. Keep perimeter transitions sealed and address leaks promptly.

My dogs are rough on floors — is the wear layer thick enough to hold up?

The 20 mil wear layer on Hazel is well above the residential minimum and handles dog nails, claws, and everyday pet traffic without showing wear quickly. Cleanup is straightforward — the surface doesn’t hold odors or stain from accidents the way carpet does. Use a damp mop and a pet-safe pH-neutral cleaner.

Does Hazel come with an attached underlayment, or do I need to buy a separate pad?

The product specifications for Hazel do not list an attached underlayment pad, so a separate pad is likely needed. Your installer will confirm this during the site visit. Adding the right underlayment improves sound absorption and makes the floor feel less hollow underfoot — especially important on concrete slabs.

Does putting vinyl plank down help or hurt when it comes time to sell in Southwest Florida?

Quality SPC vinyl plank is well-accepted by Southwest Florida buyers — it reads as a practical, move-in-ready upgrade, especially in a market where buyers expect waterproof flooring. It won’t appraise the same as tile or hardwood, but a clean, consistent floor in good condition rarely hurts a sale and often speeds one up.

Which rooms make the most sense for Hazel, and are there any spots I should avoid?

Hazel works well throughout the main living areas, bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms — the waterproof core makes wet rooms a non-issue. Covered outdoor areas like screened lanais are generally not recommended for SPC vinyl due to UV exposure and temperature swings. Check with your installer if you have an enclosed Florida room.

Can this go down on top of my existing tile, or does the old floor have to come up first?

Hazel can often float over existing hard, flat surfaces like tile, but the floor height difference and subfloor condition matter. Loose, cracked, or uneven tile usually needs to come up first. Your Flooring Queen installer will assess the surface during the in-home measurement and let you know what prep is actually required before any work begins.
