Alpha In Shadow Oak SPC Rigid-Core Plank starts at $3.99/sq ft installed in Fort Myers — a taupe, wood-look floor built for the demands of Southwest Florida living. TRUCOR’s ALPHA collection pairs a stone-plastic composite core with a realistic Shadow Oak finish, giving you the warmth of oak grain without the moisture vulnerability of real wood.
Southwest Florida homes present a specific set of challenges: concrete slabs, high ambient humidity, salt air near the coast, and the temperature swings that come with leaving a house closed up for months. Shadow Oak’s SPC core doesn’t expand and contract the way wood-based products do, and it tolerates the moisture vapor that rises through slab foundations year-round.
The 20 mil wear layer holds up to sandy foot traffic — a real concern near the beaches of Lee County — while the IXPE attached pad adds a slight cushion over hard concrete. Whether this is a full-time residence, a rental, or a seasonal retreat, this floor is built to handle periods of low maintenance without punishing you for it.

At $3.99 per square foot installed, the price covers Flooring Queen’s full-service process: delivery to your Fort Myers area home, removal of your old flooring, floor preparation for normal conditions, installation of the planks, baseboards, and standard transition strips, plus cleanup and material haul-off when we’re done. No hidden line items for a straightforward install.
Some situations do add cost. Significant floor leveling — common in older slabs — is quoted separately, as are stair nosings and any decorative inlay or custom border work. Call us or schedule a free in-home measure and we’ll put a written quote in your hands before any commitment is made.
Shoppers drawn to a wood-look floor often weigh SPC rigid-core vinyl against engineered hardwood. Engineered hardwood offers genuine wood on the surface — you can sometimes refinish it, and it has a warmth and authenticity that vinyl doesn’t fully replicate. If aesthetics and the option to sand-and-refinish matter most, engineered hardwood has the edge.
But in Southwest Florida’s climate, the calculus shifts. Engineered hardwood still contains wood fiber throughout its core and reacts to humidity swings and moisture vapor from concrete slabs. Shadow Oak’s SPC core is dimensionally stable and fully waterproof through the plank — not just the surface. For bathrooms, laundry rooms, or homes that sit vacant during summer humidity peaks, the SPC holds up where engineered hardwood can cup or gap.
| Alpha in Shadow Oak | Engineered Hardwood | |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | Waterproof through full plank | Surface-treated; core absorbs moisture |
| Scratch resistance / wear layer | 20 mil commercial-rated wear layer | Varies; aluminum oxide finish, thinner |
| Comfort underfoot | Firm with IXPE pad attached | Natural wood feel, slightly warmer |
| Installed price | $3.99/sq ft installed | ~$8.99/sq ft installed |
| Best room | Any grade, wet areas included | Above-grade dry rooms |
Sweep or vacuum Shadow Oak regularly — a soft-bristle attachment works best; avoid a beater bar, which can scuff the wear layer over time. For mopping, use a damp — not wet — mop with a pH-neutral cleaner such as Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner or a product specifically labeled safe for vinyl plank. Do not use a steam mop: the sustained heat and moisture pressure can compromise the locking joints and the IXPE pad beneath the planks. Skip wax, polish, and any solvent-based cleaner, as these leave residue that dulls the TRUWEAR finish. For technical guidance, see the World Floor Covering Association vinyl flooring guide.
Shadow Oak is genuinely waterproof through the full thickness of the plank — the SPC core does not absorb water. Standing water on the surface won’t damage the plank itself, though prolonged pooling near seams or under baseboards can eventually reach the subfloor, so prompt cleanup of major spills or floods is still a good habit.
The 20 mil wear layer on this floor is rated for commercial use, which means it’s built for heavier-than-average residential traffic and pet activity. Nails from large dogs will leave marks on any floor eventually, but at this wear layer thickness, day-to-day scratching is minimal. Keeping nails trimmed helps extend the surface considerably.
SPC rigid-core vinyl is among the most stable flooring options for seasonal homes precisely because the core doesn’t rely on humidity balance the way wood products do. Shadow Oak can tolerate the temperature and humidity swings of a closed-up Florida home better than engineered hardwood or laminate, though keeping the thermostat set — even at 80°F — is still recommended to protect other interior finishes.
Shadow Oak is approved for installation above, on, and below grade, which means it works in every room of a typical Florida home — including slab-level living areas, bathrooms, and laundry rooms. The floating installation isn’t suited for permanent wet immersion (a shower floor, for example), but every other residential application is fair game.
An IXPE foam pad is pre-attached to the back of each plank, so no separate underlayment purchase is needed. That pad softens the feel underfoot on hard concrete slabs and provides a modest reduction in impact noise — useful in multi-story homes or condos where sound transmission between floors matters.
A single large room is typically finished in one day. A full home in the 1,500–2,000 sq ft range usually runs two to three days, depending on the number of transitions, any floor prep needed, and furniture moving. Shadow Oak’s floating Valinge 5Gi click system installs efficiently, so there’s no adhesive cure time adding to the schedule.
