Specifications

Early American SPC Rigid-Core Plank starts at $3.99 per square foot installed in Fort Myers — a rich walnut-toned floor from CPF Floors’ Alpha22 collection that brings the warmth of dark natural wood to any room. The deep, organic grain suits homes that want a grounded, earthy aesthetic without the upkeep real hardwood demands.

What Early American SPC Rigid-Core Plank is built for

CPF Floors built the Alpha22 series for the conditions Southwest Florida actually throws at floors: concrete slab foundations, humidity that never really lets up, and the salt air that creeps in near the coast. Early American’s rigid SPC core doesn’t expand and contract the way wood does, so it stays flat and locked even when the AC shuts off during a long snowbird absence.

The 2mm HD EVA pad attached at the factory softens the feel underfoot on hard slabs and cuts down ambient noise between floors — useful in any multi-story home or condo. The 22mil wear layer is thick enough to hold up against the sandy grit Flooring Queen sees tracked in constantly across Lee County.

Installed pricing in Fort Myers & Southwest Florida

Flooring Queen installs Early American at $3.99 per square foot, and that price covers more than just the planks going down. It includes delivery to your home, removal and disposal of your existing floor covering, standard subfloor prep, installation of the new planks, and fitting of baseboards and transition strips.

A few things fall outside the base price: significant subfloor leveling work, stair nosing, and any custom inlays or intricate layout patterns. Flooring Queen offers a free in-home measurement visit — you’ll walk away with a written, itemized quote specific to your space before any work is scheduled.

How Early American SPC Rigid-Core Plank compares

Early American and engineered hardwood both chase the same look: real wood grain in a dark, warm tone. But they diverge quickly once humidity and water enter the conversation. Early American’s SPC core is fully waterproof throughout — not just on the surface — while engineered hardwood has a real wood veneer and a plywood or HDF core that can swell, buckle, or delaminate if water sits on it or gets underneath.

Engineered hardwood wins on one thing: feel. It has a more authentic flex and warmth underfoot, and some products can be lightly sanded and refinished once. Early American cannot be refinished, but its 22mil wear layer is considerably thicker than most engineered hardwood’s factory finish, and it comes in at a lower installed price. For a coastal Southwest Florida home — especially one on a concrete slab — Early American is the more practical choice.

Care & maintenance

Sweep or vacuum Early American regularly — use a hard-floor vacuum setting without a spinning beater bar, which can scuff the wear layer over time. For damp mopping, a pH-neutral cleaner such as Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner or a diluted Simple Green works well; avoid anything acidic or oil-based. Never use a steam mop on SPC vinyl — the sustained heat can soften the adhesive bond between layers and cause the planks to warp or separate at the joints. Wipe up spills promptly even though the core is waterproof; standing water left at seams long-term can find its way to the subfloor. Frequently asked questions

Will standing water actually damage this floor, or is ‘waterproof’ just a marketing claim?

Early American is genuinely waterproof through its rigid SPC core — not just the surface coating. Spills, pet accidents, and high humidity won’t damage the plank itself. The one caveat: prolonged standing water at seams can eventually reach the subfloor beneath, so cleaning up puddles promptly is still a good habit.

My dogs are rough on floors — is the wear layer thick enough to hold up?

The 22mil wear layer on Early American is one of the thicker options available in SPC vinyl and handles everyday pet traffic, claws, and cleanup well. It won’t show scratches from normal dog movement the way thinner 12mil products do. For very large, active breeds, area rugs in high-traffic zones add another layer of protection.

Does this come with an underlayment, or do I need to buy that separately?

Early American already has a 2mm HD EVA pad factory-attached to the back of each plank, so no separate underlayment purchase is needed. That pad softens the feel on hard concrete slabs and absorbs some impact noise — a noticeable difference compared to floating a bare rigid plank directly over slab.

Which rooms in my house are a good fit for this, and are there any places it shouldn’t go?

Early American works well in living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and open-plan spaces — essentially anywhere in a typical home. It installs using an angle-angle floating method, which works on or above grade; it’s not rated for below-grade basement installations. Avoid installing it in saunas or areas with sustained direct heat exposure.

What’s the actual difference between SPC and regular LVP — and which one is this?

Early American is SPC, which stands for stone plastic composite. The core contains limestone powder, making it denser and more rigid than traditional LVP’s foam-based core. That rigidity means it resists denting and stays flatter over time, but it is slightly firmer underfoot than softer LVP. The attached EVA pad compensates for most of that difference in daily comfort.

How long does a typical install take — are we talking one day or several?

A single room install usually wraps in half a day to a full day, depending on size and layout complexity. A whole-home project in a typical Southwest Florida house generally runs two to three days. Early American’s angle-angle floating install is straightforward, which keeps scheduling efficient — Flooring Queen will give you a specific timeline when they measure your space.
