Specifications

Cedar SPC Rigid-Core Plank starts at $3.99 per square foot installed in Fort Myers — a warm brown wood-look floor from Alon Floors’ Optimux Collection. The Cedar style pairs a realistic embossed grain with a tough rigid core built to hold up in Southwest Florida homes. It’s a practical choice that doesn’t sacrifice looks for durability.

What Cedar SPC Rigid-Core Plank is built for

Cedar fits anywhere moisture is a concern: bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and the ground-level living areas that sit on concrete slabs throughout Southwest Florida. The 100% waterproof polymer rigid core won’t swell from humidity or suffer when salt air seeps through a coastal home’s doors and windows. The 7.5 MM thickness with attached 2 MM IXPE pad adds enough cushion to compensate for the slight unevenness common in older slab foundations.

This is also a good fit for rental properties and snowbird homes that sit unoccupied through the summer heat. The rigid core stays dimensionally stable through temperature swings, and the 28-mil wear layer is thick enough to handle rolling luggage, dogs, and the general hard use that comes with high-traffic or tenant-occupied spaces.

Installed pricing in Fort Myers & Southwest Florida

Flooring Queen installs Cedar at $3.99 per square foot across Southwest Florida. That flat rate covers delivery to your home, removal of the existing floor covering, routine subfloor preparation such as cleaning and minor patching, the installation itself using the Valinge angle-click float system, and reinstallation of baseboards and transition strips. Old flooring and debris are hauled off the job site when the crew leaves.

Work outside that scope — significant subfloor leveling, stair nosing, or rooms with intricate inlaid borders — is quoted separately. Every project starts with a free in-home measurement and a written estimate so you know the full number before any work begins.

How Cedar SPC Rigid-Core Plank compares

Cedar SPC gives you a brown wood look similar to what engineered hardwood delivers, but the two products behave very differently in a Southwest Florida home. Cedar’s polymer rigid core is fully waterproof — engineered hardwood has a real-wood veneer that can buckle or cup if water sits on it. For bathrooms, laundry rooms, or any slab-on-grade space with humidity concerns, Cedar has a clear advantage.

Where engineered hardwood wins is authenticity. It can be lightly sanded and refinished, and it has the warmth of real wood underfoot. Cedar cannot be refinished — if the wear layer is gone, the plank is replaced. Engineered hardwood also adds more resale appeal for buyers who specifically want real wood floors.

Care & maintenance

Sweep or vacuum Cedar regularly — grit tracked in from sandy Southwest Florida driveways is the fastest way to wear down any floor. Use a damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner; products like Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner work well. Never use a steam mop on SPC vinyl — the concentrated heat can warp the planks or compromise the click joints over time. Skip wax, polish, or oil-based soaps as well, since they leave a film that dulls the finish and attracts dirt. Wipe up spills promptly even though the core is waterproof, because standing water at seams can work under the planks and reach the subfloor. For technical guidance, see the World Floor Covering Association vinyl flooring guide.

Frequently asked questions

Will standing water actually damage this floor, or is ‘waterproof’ just marketing?

Cedar’s 100% waterproof polymer rigid core will not swell, warp, or delaminate from water exposure — the core itself is genuinely unaffected. That said, water sitting at seams long enough can migrate under the planks and damage the subfloor beneath, so mopping up pooled water promptly is still good practice.

My dogs are rough on floors — will this hold up to claws and accidents?

The 28-mil wear layer on Cedar is thick enough to resist normal claw scratching from most dog breeds and everyday pet traffic. Cleanup is straightforward since the waterproof core means urine won’t soak in. Very large or heavy dogs with sharp nails may still leave marks over time — no vinyl floor is scratch-proof.

What’s the actual difference between SPC and regular luxury vinyl plank?

SPC (Stone Polymer Composite) has a denser, harder rigid core than standard LVP, which means it resists denting under furniture legs and stays flatter on uneven subfloors. Cedar is an SPC plank. Traditional LVP has a softer flexible core that’s quieter underfoot but more prone to dips and indentations in high-traffic areas.

How long will a full-home installation of Cedar typically take?

A single average-sized room usually takes one day; a whole home of 1,200–1,600 square feet typically runs two to three days depending on layout complexity. Cedar uses a Valinge angle-click float system, which is straightforward and doesn’t require adhesive, so the install moves at a steady pace without extended dry times.

We leave our Fort Myers home empty May through October — is Cedar going to handle that?

Cedar’s rigid polymer core is more dimensionally stable through heat and humidity cycling than wood-based floors, making it a reasonable choice for seasonally vacant homes. It won’t absorb ambient moisture or dry out and gap the way real wood can. Setting the thermostat to hold the home at a moderate temperature — rather than turning AC off entirely — will extend the floor’s life.

Can Cedar go directly over my old tile, or does the existing floor have to come up first?

In many cases Cedar can float over existing tile or vinyl if the surface is flat, firmly bonded, and low-profile enough to clear door clearances. Loose tiles, high grout lines, or floors with significant height variation typically need to come up first. Your installer will assess the substrate during the measurement visit and flag anything that needs attention before the quote is finalized.
