Iron SPC Rigid-Core Plank starts at $3.99/sq ft installed in Fort Myers — a deep charcoal floor from Alon Floors’ Optimux Collection that pairs industrial edge with practical toughness. The wide 7-inch plank and embossed-in-register texture give it a grounded, modern look without feeling cold. It’s the kind of neutral that works across a broad range of interiors without demanding design concessions.
Iron is built for the conditions Southwest Florida throws at floors daily: high humidity, concrete slab construction, and the steady foot traffic that comes with open-concept living. The 100% waterproof polymer rigid core won’t swell or buckle when humidity climbs, which matters in coastal homes near Cape Coral or Sanibel where salt air and moisture are constants.
The 28-mil wear layer is thick enough to handle pets, sandy foot traffic, and the kind of rolling suitcase and furniture movement common in rental properties and snowbird homes. It’s rated for both residential and commercial use, so it doesn’t need a second thought in a high-traffic entryway or kitchen.

Flooring Queen installs Iron at $3.99 per square foot, and that price covers the full scope of a standard job: delivery to your home, removal and disposal of your existing floor covering, surface preparation for a typical slab or wood subfloor, the installation itself, baseboard reinstallation, and transition strips between rooms.
Upcharges apply when the subfloor needs significant leveling work, or when the scope includes stair nosing, custom inlay borders, or unusually complex room layouts. Call us or schedule a free in-home measure and we’ll walk through the space, identify anything outside the standard scope, and put a written quote in your hands before any work begins.
Iron SPC and engineered hardwood occupy similar design territory — both aim for a natural-looking plank floor — but they diverge quickly on moisture tolerance. Iron’s polymer rigid core is fully waterproof; engineered hardwood uses a real-wood veneer over plywood layers that can delaminate or cup under sustained moisture exposure, a real risk in Florida bathrooms, laundry rooms, or homes that see extended vacancy without climate control.
Engineered hardwood has one meaningful advantage: the veneer can be lightly sanded and refinished once, which extends its life and lets you change the finish years down the road. Iron cannot be refinished. Where engineered hardwood earns its higher installed cost is in resale appeal for buyers who specifically want real wood. Where Iron wins is everywhere moisture or budget is a factor.
| Iron | Engineered Hardwood | |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | 100% waterproof rigid core | Moisture-sensitive; can cup or delaminate |
| Scratch resistance / wear layer | 28-mil commercial-grade wear layer | Thin veneer; scratches more easily |
| Comfort underfoot | Firm with 2 MM IXPE pad attached | Slightly warmer; natural wood feel |
| Installed price | $3.99/sq ft installed | ~$8.99/sq ft installed |
| Best room | Any room, including wet areas | Dry living areas, bedrooms |
Sweep or vacuum Iron regularly to clear grit and sand — the type of fine debris tracked in from Southwest Florida driveways that wears at any floor’s surface over time. Damp-mop with a pH-neutral cleaner like Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner; avoid anything acidic or abrasive. Do not use a steam mop — sustained heat and moisture forced through the surface can compromise the click joints and the attached IXPE pad over time. Skip the beater-bar setting on your vacuum and use a hard-floor attachment instead to protect the wear layer. For technical guidance, see the World Floor Covering Association vinyl flooring guide.
Iron’s 100% waterproof polymer rigid core means the plank itself will not absorb water, swell, or warp — even with prolonged standing water on the surface. That said, water that seeps under the floor through unsealed edges or gaps can sit on the subfloor beneath, so proper perimeter sealing during installation matters.
Iron’s 28-mil wear layer is one of the thicker options available in residential SPC, and it handles pet nail traffic well for most breeds. Cleanup of accidents is straightforward since the surface is waterproof. Deep gouges from very large dogs are still possible, but everyday wear and scratching from medium-sized pets won’t break through this wear layer.
A single room typically takes one day once material is on-site. A full home of 1,500–2,000 square feet usually runs two to three days for installation, not counting the day set aside for floor removal and prep. Iron’s Valinge angle-click system is installer-friendly, which keeps the timeline tight on straightforward layouts.
Flooring Queen installs Iron throughout the Southwest Florida region, including Cape Coral, Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Lehigh Acres, and surrounding communities. If you’re unsure whether your address falls within our service area, give us a call — most of Lee and Collier County is covered.
Iron is approved for residential and commercial use across virtually every room — kitchens, bathrooms, living areas, and bedrooms included. Because it floats over the subfloor rather than being glued or nailed down, it’s not the right choice for exterior applications or areas with direct outdoor exposure. Stairs require a separate stair-nosing installation step, which is an upcharge.
Iron’s rigid polymer core is dimensionally stable, meaning it resists the expansion and contraction cycles that happen when a home is closed up without climate control through a Florida summer. It performs significantly better than wood-based floors in seasonal homes. We still recommend keeping your AC set to at least 80°F while you’re away to protect the home overall.
