Specifications

Laurel Selbourne Luxury Vinyl Planks SPC Rigid-Core Plank starts at $3.99/sq ft installed in Fort Myers — a natural-toned wood-look floor from MSI Surfaces’ Laurel collection built on a stone-polymer core. Selbourne’s warm, natural coloring keeps it versatile across living spaces, and the rigid construction handles the humidity swings Southwest Florida homeowners deal with every season.

What Laurel Selbourne Luxury Vinyl Planks SPC Rigid-Core Plank is built for

At 5MM thick with a rigid stone-polymer core, Selbourne is engineered to stay flat on concrete slab foundations — the standard base in most Fort Myers and Cape Coral homes. That dimensional stability means it resists the expansion and contraction that humid coastal air causes in softer flooring materials.

The 20-mil wear layer is thick enough for high-traffic areas: main living rooms, hallways, open kitchens, and rental properties where floors need to hold up to real use. It’s also a practical choice for laundry rooms and bathrooms where moisture is a constant factor.

Installed pricing in Fort Myers & Southwest Florida

Flooring Queen installs Selbourne at $3.99 per square foot, which covers delivery, removal of the old flooring, standard floor prep, installation, baseboard reinstallation, and transition strips between rooms. Debris and old material are cleared off the job site as part of the project.

Some scopes run higher: significant subfloor leveling, stair nosing installation, herringbone or diagonal layouts, and decorative borders are priced separately. The best way to get an accurate number is a free in-home measurement — we walk the rooms, confirm the square footage, and hand you a written quote before any work is scheduled.

How Laurel Selbourne Luxury Vinyl Planks SPC Rigid-Core Plank compares

Shoppers often weigh SPC vinyl against engineered hardwood when they want a wood look without solid wood’s maintenance demands. Selbourne wins on moisture resistance — its stone-polymer core won’t swell if a pet has an accident or a window stays open during a summer storm. It also installs at a lower price point.

Engineered hardwood wins on feel and resale perception. Real wood has warmth underfoot that SPC can’t fully replicate, and some buyers respond to it during home sales. Engineered hardwood can also be lightly sanded and refinished once or twice, extending its life if the surface wears. Selbourne cannot be refinished — when the wear layer is gone, replacement is the only option.

Care & maintenance

Sweep or vacuum Selbourne regularly — a hard-floor setting on the vacuum is better than a rotating beater bar, which can scuff the surface over time. For mopping, use a damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner like Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner; avoid anything acidic or oil-based. Steam mops should never be used on SPC — the sustained heat and pressure can compromise the locking joints and warp the planks. Wipe up standing spills promptly even though the core is waterproof, because water can migrate under the floor if it sits at seams for extended periods. For technical guidance, see the World Floor Covering Association vinyl flooring guide.

Frequently asked questions

Will standing water actually damage this floor, or is it genuinely waterproof?

The core of Selbourne is 100% waterproof — it won’t swell, buckle, or delaminate from moisture exposure the way wood-based floors do. That said, water sitting at seams for long stretches can migrate beneath the planks, so promptly wiping up puddles and ensuring baseboard transitions are properly sealed is still good practice.

We have two large dogs — will this hold up to claws and accidents?

The 20-mil wear layer on Selbourne is thick enough to resist everyday pet claw traffic without showing scratches quickly. Accidents clean up easily since the surface doesn’t absorb liquid. For very large, active dogs, adding felt pads under furniture legs reduces concentrated point pressure on the floor.

Where in the house does this floor make the most sense — and where would you skip it?

Selbourne works well in kitchens, bathrooms, living areas, and hallways — anywhere moisture, foot traffic, or easy cleanup matters. It’s equally fine in bedrooms. The one place we’d reconsider is an outdoor-covered lanai with direct sun exposure, where prolonged UV and heat can stress any vinyl product over time.

What does ongoing maintenance actually cost — do I need special cleaners or professional re-sealing?

Day-to-day, a pH-neutral hard-floor cleaner and a damp mop are all you need — no professional re-sealing, no refinishing schedule, no specialty tools. A bottle of Bona Hard-Surface cleaner runs a few dollars and lasts months. There are no ongoing professional maintenance costs associated with SPC vinyl.

Our house sits empty from May through October — is this floor stable during those hot, humid months?

SPC rigid-core construction handles temperature and humidity cycling better than wood-based floors, making it a solid choice for seasonal homes. The stone-polymer core doesn’t expand and contract the way engineered or solid hardwood does. Keeping the home’s AC set to a moderate hold temperature still helps protect all interior finishes.

Does the old tile have to come up first, or can this go directly over it?

In many cases, Selbourne can float over existing tile if the surface is flat, firmly bonded, and the added height won’t create a transition problem at doorways. Loose tiles, significant grout ridges, or height differences greater than about 3/16 of an inch typically need to be addressed first. We assess this during the in-home measurement.
