Rockport Engineered Hardwood starts at $8.99/sq ft installed in Fort Myers — a wide-plank hickory-look floor in warm beige tones from LW Flooring’s Township Collection. The embossed texture and matte polyurethane finish give it the grain depth of real hickory without the maintenance demands of solid wood. It’s a grounded, natural-looking floor that works hard in everyday living spaces.
Glue-down installation makes Rockport a natural match for Southwest Florida homes built on concrete slab — the dominant foundation type in this region. The adhesive bond keeps planks stable even as humidity swings between the dry season and summer monsoons, and it eliminates the hollow sound you sometimes get with floating floors.
The 20-year residential warranty backs it up for full-time households, while the 10-year light commercial coverage makes it a reasonable choice for a rental property or seasonal home that sees heavier traffic in winter months. The matte finish also hides the fine sand and dust that drift into coastal homes better than a high-gloss surface would.

Flooring Queen installs Rockport at $8.99 per square foot, covering the full scope of a standard project: pulling up your existing floor covering, surface prep on the slab, glue-down installation of the planks, reinstallation of baseboards, and any transition strips between rooms. Old flooring and packaging are carted away when the crew leaves.
Certain conditions add to that base price. Significant slab lippage or low spots that require self-leveling compound are billed separately, as are stair nosing pieces, custom inlays, and feature borders. Solid hardwood and Rockport share the same hickory look and can both be sanded and refinished, but that’s where the parallel ends for most Southwest Florida homeowners. Solid hardwood expands and contracts significantly with humidity changes, making it a risky choice over concrete slab where moisture vapor moves through the floor. Engineered construction — a hardwood veneer bonded to a cross-ply core — is dimensionally more stable and is approved for glue-down over slab, the standard condition here.
Where solid hardwood has an edge: thicker wear layers on some solid products allow more refinishing cycles over a very long life. Solid also commands a higher resale perception in some markets. For SWFL conditions, though, engineered is the lower-risk path, and Rockport carries a 20-year residential warranty to back that up.
| Rockport | Solid Hardwood | |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | Moisture-tolerant; slab-approved | Sensitive to humidity; slab-risky |
| Scratch resistance / wear layer | 8 mil polyurethane UV matte | Varies; some allow deeper sanding |
| Comfort underfoot | Real wood veneer, warm feel | Real wood throughout, warm feel |
| Installed price | $8.99/sq ft installed | Typically $10–$14/sq ft installed |
| Best room | Living areas, bedrooms on slab | Above-grade rooms, wood subfloor |
Sweep or vacuum with a hard-floor setting regularly — grit tracked in from outside is the main source of surface wear on any wood-veneer floor. Damp-mop with a well-wrung mop and a hardwood-specific cleaner such as Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner; avoid soaking the floor or letting standing water sit near seams. Steer clear of steam mops entirely, as the heat and moisture can penetrate the veneer and cause edge swelling over time. Acidic or wax-based cleaners will break down the polyurethane UV matte finish, so check labels before using anything unfamiliar on this floor. LW Flooring recommends acclimating engineered hardwood for at least 48–72 hours in the room where it will be installed. In Southwest Florida’s humidity, that window matters — giving the planks time to adjust to your home’s interior climate reduces the chance of gapping or buckling after the glue sets.
The 8 mil wear layer on Rockport is thin compared to thicker engineered or solid products, so refinishing is not a practical option for most homeowners. A light screen-and-recoat by a professional may be possible once if the surface is only lightly worn, but plan to replace rather than sand this floor at end of life.
Engineered hardwood is the right call for Southwest Florida because solid wood moves too much with the region’s humidity swings and cannot be safely glued down over concrete slab. Rockport’s cross-ply core is dimensionally stable, slab-compatible, and backed by a 20-year residential warranty — making it the lower-risk wood option for this climate.
Rockport is well-suited to living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, and bedrooms — any above- or on-grade space where humidity is controlled. Keep it out of full bathrooms and laundry rooms where water pooling is common. The glue-down method works on concrete slab but is not designed for below-grade installations.
Rockport is not waterproof — the wood veneer and core can absorb moisture if water sits on the surface for an extended period. Everyday spills wiped up promptly are fine, but standing water, a slow appliance leak, or a roof drip can cause swelling, staining, or edge separation. Surface water resistance is not the same as a waterproof core.
Engineered hardwood handles seasonal vacancy better than solid wood, but it still needs a stable interior environment year-round. Keep your HVAC running at a moderate setpoint — roughly 75–80°F and under 60% relative humidity — during the off-season. Letting the home go unconditioned through a Florida summer invites moisture buildup that can stress even a stable engineered floor.
Engineered hardwood is the only wood we recommend over SWFL slabs, and we install it every week. Our team handles substrate moisture testing, layout, install, and trim from one source. Written installed quote: (239) 763-0770.
