Fiji Engineered Hardwood starts at $8.99 per square foot installed in Fort Myers — a wide-plank European White Oak floor in a natural tone, wirebrushed and micro-beveled for a look that reads as genuinely lived-in without feeling distressed. From LW Flooring’s Paradise Island collection, it pairs low color variation with a 10-1/4″ width that lets the grain speak for itself.
A 5/8″ engineered construction with a 4 mm European White Oak wear layer gives Fiji real dimensional stability — important in Southwest Florida, where humidity swings between the dry season and summer monsoons. The core is designed to resist the seasonal expansion and contraction that causes solid hardwood to move unpredictably on concrete slabs, which are the standard foundation in most Fort Myers and Cape Coral homes.
Fiji installs by float, glue, or nail, so it works on slab-on-grade without modification. The lifetime residential warranty makes it a reasonable choice for primary residences and snowbird homes alike. It is not rated for wet areas, so kitchens and bathrooms need a different material.

Flooring Queen installs Fiji at $8.99 per square foot in Southwest Florida. That price covers material delivery, removal of your current floor covering, standard subfloor prep, installation, baseboard reattachment, and transition strips between rooms — plus same-crew haul-off of the old material when the job is done.
Work that falls outside the standard scope adds to the final number: significant subfloor leveling, stair nosing, herringbone or other angled patterns, and custom border inlays are all quoted separately. Call or schedule online and we’ll come out, measure the actual space, and hand you a written line-item quote before any commitment is made.
Fiji is European White Oak either way — so the comparison is about construction, not species. Solid hardwood is a single plank all the way through, which means it can be sanded and refinished more times over its life. That’s a real advantage if you plan to own the home for 30-plus years and want to resurface rather than replace.
Engineered hardwood, including Fiji, is built for the conditions that defeat solid wood in Southwest Florida: concrete slabs, high ambient humidity, and the coastal moisture that comes with living near the Gulf. Fiji’s multi-ply core won’t cup or gap the way solid planks can when humidity spikes. You give up some refinishing cycles; you gain a floor that’s stable year-round without climate control running constantly.
| Fiji | Solid Hardwood | |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | Moisture-stable core; not waterproof | Poor; cups and gaps with humidity |
| Scratch resistance / wear layer | 4 mm oak + aluminum oxide finish | Full thickness; same finish options |
| Comfort underfoot | Warm, solid feel | Warm, solid feel |
| Installed price | $8.99/sq ft installed | Typically $10–$14/sq ft installed |
| Best room | Living areas, bedrooms, on slab | Above-grade rooms with stable humidity |
Sweep or vacuum Fiji regularly — a hard-floor vacuum head without a rotating beater bar protects the wirebrushed surface. For damp mopping, use a hardwood-specific cleaner such as Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner or WOCA Wood Cleaner; both are pH-balanced and won’t break down the polyurethane-aluminum oxide finish over time. Avoid steam mops entirely — repeated steam penetrates the finish and can delaminate the engineered layers. Wipe up spills promptly; the finish resists surface moisture but standing water left for an extended period will eventually work into seams and cause swelling at the edges. For technical guidance, see the National Wood Flooring Association consumer hardwood information.
Most engineered hardwood, including Fiji, needs 48–72 hours to acclimate inside your home before installation. In Southwest Florida’s humidity, this step matters more than in drier climates — the planks need to reach equilibrium with your interior conditions so they don’t expand or contract noticeably after they’re laid.
A 4 mm European White Oak wear layer supports two to three light sandings over the floor’s lifetime. Each professional screen-and-recoat removes a fraction of a millimeter, so the math works out to meaningful refinishing potential — more than thin-veneer engineered products, though still fewer passes than a solid plank of the same species.
Fiji is well suited for living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, and bedrooms — any above-grade or on-slab dry area. Avoid it in full bathrooms, laundry rooms, or covered outdoor spaces where standing water is possible. The float, glue, or nail install methods make it compatible with concrete slab foundations common in Southwest Florida.
Surface moisture wiped up promptly won’t damage Fiji, but this floor is not waterproof. The polyurethane finish resists incidental spills and tracked-in water, but the engineered core is not sealed against prolonged exposure. Standing puddles or chronic moisture at seams can cause edge swelling. For pool decks or wet-entry areas, a waterproof LVP or porcelain tile is a better choice.
Real oak floors are a recognized upgrade in Southwest Florida real estate listings and tend to photograph well, which matters in a market where buyers often shop remotely. Engineered hardwood consistently tests better with buyers than laminate or vinyl, though it won’t overcome pricing that’s out of step with the neighborhood. It’s a neutral-positive for resale, not a guarantee.
The 4 mm European White Oak wear layer finished with aluminum oxide is reasonably scratch-resistant for an engineered wood product, but no real-wood floor is impervious to large-dog nails. The wirebrushed texture does help disguise light surface marks. Trim nails regularly, add entry mats, and consider area rugs in high-traffic pet zones to extend the finish life.
