Urban Design 12 – Dubai SPC Rigid-Core Plank installs at $3.99 per square foot in Fort Myers — a taupe-toned rigid-core vinyl from Happy Feet’s Urban Design 12 collection that reads like a calm, sandy neutral on any floor. The 7″ x 48″ plank format and glue-down construction make it a practical choice for slab-on-grade homes throughout Southwest Florida. It’s built for durability without drawing attention to itself.

What Urban Design 12 – Dubai SPC Rigid-Core Plank is built for

Dubai’s taupe coloring and glue-down SPC construction suit it well for living areas, bedrooms, and open floor plans built on concrete slabs — which describes the majority of homes in Lee County. The 100% virgin vinyl white core resists moisture from below, a real advantage in a region where humidity seeps through concrete year-round.

The 12 mil wear layer is a reasonable defense against everyday foot traffic, pet nails, and the fine quartz sand that Southwest Florida residents track in constantly. Because it glues directly to the subfloor, there’s no floating-floor bounce — it stays put in high-humidity conditions that can cause floating planks to shift.

Installed pricing in Fort Myers & Southwest Florida

Flooring Queen installs Urban Design 12 – Dubai at $3.99 per square foot, and that price covers the full scope of a standard residential job: material delivery, removal of your existing floor covering, routine subfloor cleaning and prep, glue-down installation, new baseboards, transition strips between rooms, and debris removal when the crew leaves.

Some conditions add to that number. Floors that need significant leveling compound, areas with multiple intricate borders, or jobs requiring stair nosing are quoted as line-item upcharges. Before any of that is finalized, we schedule a free in-home measurement and put everything in writing so you know the exact number before work begins.

How Urban Design 12 – Dubai SPC Rigid-Core Plank compares

Traditional glue-down LVT and SPC planks like Dubai look similar at first glance — both are vinyl, both install with adhesive. The difference is what’s underneath the wear layer. Standard LVT is a flexible, fiberglass-reinforced sheet product; SPC rigid-core has a stone-polymer composite core that resists indentation and doesn’t flex under heavy furniture or foot traffic the way flexible LVT can over time.

For Southwest Florida slab homes, the rigid core also means less telegraphing of minor subfloor imperfections. Traditional flexible LVT can show ridges or low spots more readily. Where flexible LVT has the edge: it’s slightly softer underfoot and can be more forgiving on uneven surfaces. Dubai wins on dimensional stability and dent resistance; flexible LVT wins on cushion.

Care & maintenance

Sweep or vacuum regularly — a hard floor attachment works better than a beater bar, which can scuff the surface over time. For mopping, use a pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner like Bona Stone, Tile & Laminate or a diluted mild dish soap solution; avoid acidic or solvent-based cleaners, which can break down the aluminum oxide finish. Steam mops are not recommended for glue-down SPC — the heat can soften the adhesive bond and cause edges to lift. Wipe spills promptly and keep entry mats at doors to reduce sand and grit abrasion. Frequently asked questions

Will standing water actually damage this floor, or is it truly waterproof?

The plank itself is 100% waterproof — the stone-polymer core won’t swell or warp if water sits on it. The risk area is the perimeter: if water gets underneath through gaps at walls or transitions and pools under the adhesive bond for extended periods, the subfloor beneath can still be affected. Keep edges sealed and wipe up puddles promptly.

We have two large dogs — is the 12 mil wear layer going to hold up to that?

A 12 mil wear layer handles normal pet traffic well — everyday scratching from medium to large dogs will show minimal marks under regular use. It’s not rated for exotic animal claws or extremely heavy-nailed breeds, but for typical household dogs it’s a practical choice. Cleanup is straightforward: pet messes wipe clean without soaking into the core.

What makes SPC different from the regular vinyl plank I’ve seen at the big box stores?

SPC stands for stone-polymer composite — the core is made from limestone powder and PVC, which makes it rigid and dimensionally stable rather than flexible. Standard LVP (luxury vinyl plank) uses a softer, more pliable core that can flex or dent under heavy loads. SPC holds its shape better over concrete slabs in humid climates, which is why it’s common in Florida construction.

Does Dubai come with a pre-attached underlayment, or do I need to add padding separately?

Dubai does not include an attached pad — it’s a 2mm plank designed for glue-down installation directly to the subfloor. That means no separate underlayment is used with this product; the adhesive bond is the connection. Without attached cushion, the floor feels firm underfoot, so area rugs in living spaces can help add comfort where you stand most.

Our condo sits empty from May through October — is a glue-down floor a problem when the A/C is set back?

SPC rigid-core handles temperature and humidity cycling better than wood-based floors, making it a reasonable option for seasonal homes. The key with glue-down is keeping the HVAC on a moderate setback — not off entirely — so the slab stays at a stable temperature. Extreme heat on an unoccupied slab can stress the adhesive over repeated seasons, so a setback of 78–82°F is worth maintaining.

My existing tile is in decent shape — does it have to come up before this goes down, or can Dubai go right over it?

Whether Dubai can go over existing tile depends on the condition of that tile and the resulting height transition — your installer will assess this during the measurement visit. Glue-down SPC requires a flat, secure, contamination-free surface; loose, cracked, or heavily textured tile typically needs to come up first. Sound tile that’s level and well-bonded may work as a substrate after proper prep.
