Specifications

Moonstone Creek Engineered Hardwood starts at $8.99 per square foot installed in Fort Myers — an oak-look floor from LW Flooring’s Riverstone collection finished in warm brown tones with an embossed-in-register surface that reads like real wood grain. At 7 inches wide and 48 inches long, these planks fill a room with the kind of scale that makes open-concept layouts look intentional.

What Moonstone Creek Engineered Hardwood is built for

The 5.5mm construction and click-lock install sit flat over concrete slabs, which is exactly how most Southwest Florida homes are built. The polyurethane finish and painted beveled edges hold up to the humidity swings that come with living near the coast, and the lifetime residential warranty backs that claim.

Seasonal homeowners will appreciate that click-lock engineered planks are forgiving during months when a house sits closed and the air conditioning cycles up and down. Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, and hallways are all fair game. Skip it in full bathrooms or laundry rooms where standing water is routine.

Installed pricing in Fort Myers & Southwest Florida

At $8.99 per square foot installed, the price covers material, delivery to your Fort Myers or Southwest Florida address, removal of your existing floor covering, standard subfloor preparation, installation of the planks, baseboards, and transition strips — plus cleanup and haul-away when the crew leaves.

Some projects run higher. Significant subfloor leveling, stair nosing pieces, or custom layout patterns like herringbone add to the base price. Call Flooring Queen or book a free in-home measurement and you’ll receive a written quote specific to your space before any commitment is made.

How Moonstone Creek Engineered Hardwood compares

Engineered hardwood and solid hardwood look nearly identical once installed — same species looks, same finishing options, often the same width profiles. The difference is structural. Solid hardwood is a single piece of wood that can be sanded and refinished several times over decades, but it moves with humidity and is a poor fit for concrete slab foundations without a vapor barrier and careful prep. Moonstone Creek’s engineered construction uses a layered core that resists the seasonal movement solid wood is prone to, making it more appropriate for Florida’s humidity and slab-on-grade construction. The trade-off: engineered planks have a thinner wear layer, so refinishing is limited. Solid hardwood typically runs higher on installed cost, often $10–$14 per square foot depending on species.

Care & maintenance

Sweep or vacuum on a hard-floor setting — avoid beater-bar attachments, which can scuff the polyurethane finish over time. For damp mopping, use a hardwood-safe cleaner like Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner or a pH-neutral formula; wring the mop nearly dry before it touches the floor. Standing water is the enemy: wipe up spills promptly, especially near edges and seams where moisture can work into the core. Avoid steam mops entirely — the heat and moisture combination can break down the finish and cause the planks to cup or swell at the edges. Frequently asked questions

Does engineered hardwood need to sit and acclimate before it gets installed in a Florida home?

Yes — LW Flooring recommends acclimating Moonstone Creek in the room where it will be installed for at least 48–72 hours before work begins. In Southwest Florida’s humidity, this step matters more than it does in drier climates. Keep the home’s HVAC running at normal living conditions during that window so the planks adjust to the actual environment.

With a wear layer this thin, can these planks ever be sanded down and refinished?

Moonstone Creek carries a 20 mil wear layer, which is on the thicker end for engineered hardwood and does allow for light screening or refinishing — typically once, possibly twice, depending on how aggressively the work is done. This is not a floor you can sand down repeatedly the way solid hardwood can be. A professional should assess the wear layer depth before any refinishing attempt.

Where in the house does this floor work well, and are there any spots to avoid?

Moonstone Creek is well suited to living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and hallways — anywhere foot traffic is regular but standing water is not a factor. The click-lock system installs comfortably over concrete slabs, so below-grade and on-grade rooms are fine. Avoid full bathrooms, laundry rooms, or any space where the floor regularly gets wet.

Can this go down directly over my old tile, or does it have to come up first?

The click-lock system on Moonstone Creek can often float over existing hard-surface floors like tile or vinyl as long as the surface is flat, stable, and low-profile enough to accommodate the added height. Loose tiles, soft vinyl, or uneven spots need to be addressed first. Your installer will check the existing floor during the in-home measurement and flag anything that needs attention before work starts.

Will water damage this floor if something gets spilled or a window gets left open in the rain?

Moonstone Creek is water-resistant at the surface, not waterproof throughout. The polyurethane finish handles everyday spills and humidity without issue, but prolonged standing water — especially at seams or edges — can reach the wood core and cause swelling or warping. Wipe up spills promptly and address any leak sources before installation. This floor is not appropriate for rooms where regular wet exposure is expected.

We have two dogs — is this floor going to show every scratch within the first month?

The 20 mil polyurethane finish gives Moonstone Creek meaningful scratch resistance for a wood-look floor, and it holds up reasonably well to dog nails with normal activity. Keeping nails trimmed reduces surface marks significantly. The embossed-in-register texture also helps disguise light scratching compared to a high-gloss finish. Cleanup from muddy paws or accidents is straightforward — wipe up promptly with a damp cloth and a hardwood-safe cleaner.
