Specifications

Bowstring Engineered Hardwood starts at $8.99 per square foot installed in Fort Myers — a warm honey-toned oak floor from LW Flooring’s Cascades collection with an embossed-in-register texture that reads like the real thing. At nearly 7-2/3 inches wide and just under five feet long, each plank makes a room feel open without overwhelming it.

What Bowstring Engineered Hardwood is built for

The 10mm thickness and attached IXPE pad make Bowstring a strong candidate for concrete slab installations, which is the foundation reality for most Southwest Florida homes. The pad cushions the float, softens sound, and provides a small thermal buffer — all useful in a climate where slabs stay cool year-round.

The AC4 wear rating means this floor holds up to active households and light commercial foot traffic without the finish wearing thin. It’s a reasonable choice for snowbird and seasonal rental properties too, where durability matters more than babying the floor through a long offseason.

Installed pricing in Fort Myers & Southwest Florida

Flooring Queen installs Bowstring at $8.99 per square foot, and that price covers the full scope of a standard project: material delivery, removal and disposal of your existing flooring, subfloor inspection and routine prep, click-lock installation, new baseboards, and transition strips between rooms.

Upcharges apply for work outside a standard scope — significant subfloor leveling, stair nosing, diagonal or herringbone layout, or custom border details. Call or schedule online and we’ll come out, measure the space, and put a written quote in your hands before anything is ordered.

How Bowstring Engineered Hardwood compares

The honest comparison for Bowstring is solid hardwood. Both are real oak, and both carry the warmth and grain character that vinyl products approximate but don’t quite replicate. The difference is in the construction and what that means for Southwest Florida.

Solid hardwood expands and contracts more dramatically with humidity swings — and coastal SWFL sees those swings constantly. Engineered construction, with its cross-ply core, moves less. It also installs as a floating floor directly over a concrete slab, whereas solid hardwood typically requires nail-down over plywood. Solid hardwood can be refinished more times because of its thicker wear layer, but Bowstring’s AC4 finish is durable enough that most homeowners never refinish at all.

Care & maintenance

Sweep or vacuum daily to keep sand and grit — a constant in Southwest Florida homes — from scratching the aluminum oxide finish. Use a hardwood-specific cleaner like Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner or a lightly dampened microfiber mop; avoid soaking the surface or letting standing water sit near seams, as moisture can work into the joints over time. Skip steam mops entirely — the heat and pressure force moisture under the wear layer and can compromise the IXPE pad beneath. Never use ammonia-based or oil-soap products, which dull the finish and can void the warranty. For technical guidance, see the National Wood Flooring Association consumer hardwood information.

Frequently asked questions

How much time does engineered hardwood need to sit in the house before it’s installed?

In Southwest Florida’s humidity, plan for 48 to 72 hours of acclimation with the planks laid flat in the room where they’ll be installed. Keep your HVAC running at normal living conditions during that window — acclimating in a hot, closed home gives you inaccurate results and can cause gapping or buckling after install.

Does the wear layer on Bowstring allow for sanding and refinishing down the road?

Bowstring carries an AC4 aluminum oxide finish, and whether it can be refinished depends on how much of the 10mm total thickness sits above the core — that information isn’t specified in the manufacturer’s data. Most engineered floors at this thickness allow one light sand, but we recommend confirming with LW Flooring before planning any refinishing work.

Can Bowstring go directly over my old tile without tearing it out first?

In many cases, yes — the click-lock floating system doesn’t require adhesive or fasteners, so it can go over a flat, stable existing surface. The key word is flat: tile with significant grout line height variation or lippage needs to be addressed first. We check for that during the measure visit so there are no surprises on installation day.

Will moisture be a problem if I install this in a Florida home near the coast?

Bowstring is water-resistant at the surface, not waterproof through the core — an important distinction. Routine coastal humidity and occasional spills are manageable if cleaned up promptly, but standing water or flooding can damage the planks. For rooms with direct water exposure like laundry rooms, a fully waterproof SPC product is a safer fit.

Why would I choose engineered oak over solid oak for a Florida home?

Engineered hardwood handles humidity movement better than solid because its cross-layered core resists expansion and contraction. In Southwest Florida, where interior humidity fluctuates with storm season and AC cycles, that stability matters. It also floats over concrete slab — the foundation under most homes here — without the plywood subfloor that solid hardwood installation typically requires.

Which rooms in my home are the best and worst fit for this floor?

Bowstring works well in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and hallways — anywhere above grade that doesn’t see direct water. Avoid installing it in bathrooms, laundry rooms, or enclosed outdoor spaces like lanais. As a floating floor it’s also not the right call for below-grade installations, though true basements are uncommon in Southwest Florida.
