Fiji – Herringbone Engineered Hardwood starts at $8.99/sq ft installed in Fort Myers — a wirebrushed European White Oak floor laid in a classic herringbone pattern with a warm natural tone. It comes from LW Flooring’s Paradise Island collection, a line built around the relaxed, organic look that suits coastal Florida homes. The fixed-length planks and medium variation give the pattern real visual rhythm without looking busy.
European White Oak on a 5/8″ engineered construction handles Southwest Florida’s humidity swings better than solid wood. The multi-ply core resists the expansion and contraction that comes with seasonal air conditioning cycling — relevant whether you live here full-time or close the house up for summer.
The 4 mm wear layer and polyurethane-aluminum oxide finish hold up to sandy foot traffic and everyday coastal life. Float, glue, or nail installation means it works over concrete slabs, which covers most homes in Cape Coral and Fort Myers. The micro-beveled edge keeps the herringbone geometry crisp even as planks naturally move slightly over time.

At $8.99 per square foot installed, Flooring Queen’s price covers material, delivery, removal of your existing floor covering, subfloor inspection and routine prep, installation, baseboards, and transition strips. Hauling away the old flooring is part of the job — no extra trip charge for that.
Some work falls outside the base price: significant leveling of an uneven slab, stair nosing, or pattern upgrades like custom borders. The herringbone layout itself is already factored in. Schedule a free in-home measure and you’ll get a room-by-room written quote before anything is committed.
The honest comparison with solid hardwood comes down to moisture tolerance and installation flexibility. Solid oak expands and contracts more dramatically with humidity changes — a real issue in Southwest Florida where interior humidity can swing 30 points between summer and a fully air-conditioned winter. Engineered construction limits that movement, making it more stable on concrete slabs and in homes with inconsistent climate control.
Solid hardwood does have one structural advantage: it can be sanded and refinished more times over its life. Fiji – Herringbone’s 4 mm wear layer allows refinishing, but the total depth available is less than a 3/4″ solid plank. For most homeowners, that trade-off is worth the added stability in Florida’s climate.
| Fiji – Herringbone | Solid Hardwood | |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | Moisture-stable engineered core | Prone to cupping on slabs |
| Scratch resistance / wear layer | 4 mm wear layer, aluminum oxide finish | Varies; no dedicated wear layer |
| Comfort underfoot | Real wood feel, 5/8″ thick | Real wood feel, typically 3/4″ thick |
| Installed price | $8.99/sq ft installed | Typically $10–$14/sq ft installed |
| Best room | Living areas, bedrooms, slab installs | Above-grade rooms, stable humidity only |
Sweep or dust-mop daily — sand and grit are the primary enemies of any wood finish in a Florida home. For regular cleaning, use a hardwood-specific cleaner like Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner or a product recommended by LW Flooring; avoid anything acidic, wax-based, or oil-soap formulas, which can leave residue that dulls the finish over time. Never use a steam mop — the heat and moisture force their way into the micro-beveled edges and can cause swelling. Dry spills promptly; the finish is water-resistant at the surface, not waterproof through the board. For technical guidance, see the National Wood Flooring Association consumer hardwood information.
Plan for at least 3–5 days of acclimation inside your home before installation begins. In Southwest Florida’s humidity, this step matters more than in drier climates. The planks need to stabilize to your home’s actual temperature and moisture level — rushing it increases the risk of gapping or buckling after install.
Yes, the 4 mm wear layer on Fiji – Herringbone is thick enough to support refinishing — typically one to two light sandings over the floor’s life, depending on how aggressively material is removed. That’s less than a solid plank, but it still extends the floor’s lifespan well beyond what a thin-veneer product allows.
It depends on the condition and height of the existing surface, not just the material. Fiji – Herringbone supports float, glue, and nail installation, so the method is flexible. If the tile is firmly bonded, flat, and won’t push the finished floor height into conflict with doors or transitions, it may stay. Our installer will assess that at measure.
Surface water wiped up promptly won’t damage the finish, but Fiji – Herringbone is not a waterproof floor. The polyurethane finish resists brief moisture contact at the surface — it does not have a waterproof core. Standing water left long enough will work into the micro-beveled edges and cause swelling. Clean up spills quickly and keep this floor out of wet areas like bathrooms.
Engineered construction tolerates humidity cycling better than solid wood, but the floor still needs climate control while the home is unoccupied. Keep the AC set no higher than 78–80°F and maintain indoor humidity between 35–55%. Leaving a Florida home completely unconditioned in summer puts any wood-based floor at risk of cupping or gapping.
