Specifications

Salerno Engineered Hardwood starts at $8.99/sq ft installed in Fort Myers — a wirebrushed European White Oak floor from LW Flooring’s Renaissance Collection that carries the quiet, natural character of real oak without the limitations of solid wood. The medium color variation and micro-beveled edges give it an authentic, lightly textured look that reads warm without being heavy. It’s a genuine hardwood floor at a price point that makes sense for a full-home project.

What Salerno Engineered Hardwood is built for

At 9/16″ thick with three installation methods — float, glue, or nail — Salerno adapts to the concrete slab foundations common throughout Southwest Florida better than solid hardwood ever could. The engineered construction handles the humidity swings that come with coastal living, making it a realistic choice for bedrooms, living areas, dining rooms, and home offices.

Seasonal homeowners will appreciate that the floor holds up during the months a property sits closed and climate-controlled. The wirebrushed finish hides fine scratches and the inevitable sandy grit that finds its way in from the beach or yard, making it practical for everyday wear in a Florida home.

Installed pricing in Fort Myers & Southwest Florida

Flooring Queen installs Salerno at $8.99 per square foot, and that price covers the full scope of a standard project: material delivery, removal of your existing floor covering, routine subfloor preparation, installation, new baseboards, transition strips, and cleanup and removal of the old flooring.

Some situations add cost — significant subfloor leveling, stair nosing, or inlaid borders are priced separately because the labor involved is genuinely different. Before any work starts, we send someone out to measure the space at no charge and put together a written quote so you know the full number upfront.

How Salerno Engineered Hardwood compares

Solid hardwood and Salerno are made from the same species — European White Oak — so the look and feel are nearly identical underfoot. The difference is structural. Solid hardwood expands and contracts significantly with humidity, which makes it a risky choice over concrete slabs and genuinely problematic in coastal Florida’s humidity swings. Salerno’s engineered construction is dimensionally more stable, and it can still be installed three different ways depending on your subfloor.

Where solid hardwood wins: a thicker wear layer on some species allows more refinishing cycles over the decades. Salerno’s 3 mm wear layer supports light sanding and refinishing, but not as many passes as a 3/4″ solid board. If longevity across 50+ years and repeated refinishing is the priority, solid hardwood has an edge — if stability in a humid climate matters more, engineered is the better call.

Care & maintenance

Sweep or dry-mop daily to clear the sandy grit that’s hard on any wood finish in Southwest Florida. For routine cleaning, use a hardwood-specific cleaner like Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner or WOCA Wood Floor Cleaner — apply sparingly with a barely damp mop and dry the surface immediately. Never use a steam mop, wet mop, or anything with a rotating brush head directly on the wood. Avoid vinegar-based or acidic cleaners, which break down the polyurethane and aluminum oxide finish over time. Wipe up any liquid spills promptly; the finish is protective but not a barrier against standing water left in place. Frequently asked questions

How much time does Salerno need to sit in the house before it gets installed?

Engineered hardwood should acclimate in the installation space for at least 72 hours before going down. In Southwest Florida’s high-humidity environment, your installer may extend that to four or five days. Keep the home at its normal living temperature and humidity during that window — don’t run the AC on full blast right before install and then set it back afterward.

With a 3 mm wear layer, is this floor something I could ever refinish?

Yes — a 3 mm wear layer is thick enough to support light sanding and refinishing, typically one to two times over the floor’s life depending on how much material is removed each pass. It’s not the same as a 3/4″ solid board, so it won’t survive the same number of refinishing cycles, but it gives you a real option if the finish wears or you want to change the tone years down the road.

What rooms is Salerno a good fit for, and where would you not use it?

Salerno works well in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and home offices — essentially any above-grade or on-slab dry living area. The float, glue, or nail installation options give it flexibility on concrete slabs common in Florida. Avoid installing it in bathrooms, laundry rooms, or any space with frequent moisture exposure, as no engineered hardwood is designed for those environments.

Will this floor hold up if water gets on it — say from a spill or a humid day?

Salerno’s polyurethane and aluminum oxide finish provides surface-level water resistance, meaning everyday spills wiped up quickly won’t damage it. What it isn’t is waterproof — the wood core can swell if standing water is left sitting or if moisture works its way through seams over time. Clean up spills promptly and keep humidity levels stable, especially important in a Southwest Florida home.

Can Salerno go directly on top of old tile or vinyl, or does the existing floor have to come out first?

Whether Salerno can go over existing tile or vinyl depends on the installation method and the height of what’s already there. A float installation can work over a flat, well-bonded existing surface, but any loose tiles, high spots, or height transitions at doorways need to be addressed first. Your installer will assess that during the pre-install measure — it’s not a blanket yes or no without seeing the actual condition of the floor.

What does the warranty actually cover on this floor?

LW Flooring backs Salerno with a lifetime residential warranty and a 5-year light commercial warranty. Manufacturer warranties on engineered hardwood typically cover manufacturing defects and finish performance under normal use. They don’t cover damage from flooding, improper installation, or subfloor movement. Keep your purchase documentation and follow the care guidelines — both matter if you ever need to make a claim.
