Specifications

Oyster SPC Rigid-Core Plank starts at $3.99 per square foot installed in Fort Myers — a warm taupe floor from Neptune’s Maxlp collection built for Florida’s humidity and everyday demands. The wide 9-inch plank format and embossed-in-register synchronized texture give it an authentic wood feel without the upkeep real wood requires. GREENGUARD Gold certification means it’s a clean-air choice for homes and families.

What Oyster SPC Rigid-Core Plank is built for

Florida’s climate tests flooring in ways colder states never do. Oyster’s 100% waterproof SPC rigid core won’t swell or buckle when humidity spikes, making it a practical pick for homes on concrete slab foundations — the dominant build type throughout Southwest Florida. The pre-attached IXPE backing adds a modest cushion layer and helps the plank sit flat even over minor slab imperfections.

The 22-mil wear layer is thick enough for active households, coastal properties dealing with tracked-in sand, and rental units where turnover wear is a real concern. Salt air near Cape Coral or Estero won’t affect the core, and the antimicrobial finish built into the Shadetech surface resists the mold and mildew that a humid Florida season can encourage.

Installed pricing in Fort Myers & Southwest Florida

Flooring Queen installs Oyster at $3.99 per square foot, and that price covers more than just the planks going down. Included in the quote: material delivery, removal of your existing floor covering, standard subfloor preparation, the floating installation itself, new baseboard moldings, and transition strips between rooms. Old materials are loaded out and disposed of — you don’t deal with any of that.

Some scopes cost more. Significant subfloor leveling beyond routine prep, stair nosing, intricate layout patterns, or custom border work are priced separately. The best way to nail down your number is to schedule a free in-home measure — Flooring Queen walks the space, takes exact measurements, and hands you a written quote before any work begins.

How Oyster SPC Rigid-Core Plank compares

Shoppers comparing Oyster to engineered hardwood are really weighing authenticity against practicality. Engineered hardwood has a real wood veneer — it looks and feels like the genuine article, and it can be lightly sanded and refinished once or twice over its life. That’s a real advantage if the look of natural wood grain is a priority.

Oyster wins on moisture tolerance, cost, and Florida-specific durability. Engineered hardwood still contains real wood, which means humidity cycling and slab moisture are genuine risks — especially in Southwest Florida’s summer season. Oyster’s waterproof rigid core eliminates that concern entirely. It also comes in at a lower installed price, requires no refinishing, and the 22-mil wear layer outperforms a typical engineered veneer for scratch and scuff resistance in high-traffic areas.

Care & maintenance

Sweep or dust-mop Oyster regularly to keep sand and grit from working against the wear layer — this matters most in Florida homes where fine particles track in from driveways and beaches. For deeper cleaning, use a pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner such as Bona Stone, Tile & Laminate or a diluted dish-soap solution; avoid acidic or oil-based cleaners that can dull the Shadetech finish over time. Steam mops should never be used on SPC planks — the concentrated heat can compromise the locking joints and cause planks to shift or gap, voiding the manufacturer’s warranty. For technical guidance, see the World Floor Covering Association vinyl flooring guide.

Frequently asked questions

Will standing water actually damage this floor, or just the surface?

Oyster’s SPC core is 100% waterproof, meaning standing water won’t swell or warp the plank itself. The waterproofing runs through the entire rigid core, not just a surface coating. That said, any water that seeps into the subfloor through gaps at walls or transitions is a subfloor issue, not a flooring issue — so proper sealing at perimeters still matters.

We have two large dogs. Will their nails tear this floor up over a few years?

Oyster’s 22-mil wear layer is one of the thicker options in the SPC category, and it holds up well against pet nails under normal daily activity. Light surface scratches are possible over time with large breeds, but they won’t penetrate through to the print layer. Cleanup after accidents is straightforward — the waterproof core means no absorption and no lingering odor in the plank itself.

We’re snowbirds who close the house from June through October. Is this floor going to warp or gap while we’re gone?

Oyster handles seasonal vacancy well. The rigid SPC core doesn’t expand and contract the way wood-based floors do during prolonged humidity swings, so closing the house for several months won’t cause planks to buckle or open up at the joints — provided the home stays within a reasonable temperature range and air conditioning is set to a basic humidity-control level. It’s a practical choice for part-year Florida properties.

Does Flooring Queen install this product in Cape Coral and Bonita Springs, or mainly in Fort Myers itself?

Flooring Queen installs Oyster throughout the greater Southwest Florida area, including Cape Coral and Bonita Springs. Coverage also extends to Naples, Estero, and surrounding communities. If you’re not sure whether your address falls within the service area, a quick call or online inquiry will confirm it — and a free in-home measure can usually be scheduled within a few days.

Which rooms in a house make the most sense for this plank, and are there any spots where it’s a bad fit?

Oyster is a floating installation, which means it works on any grade level — slab, above-grade, or below-grade — making it suitable for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and Florida rooms alike. The waterproof core removes moisture as a limiting factor. The one exception worth noting is exterior use: this floor is designed for interior conditioned spaces only, so covered-but-open lanais are not a good fit.

Our condo association requires IIC-rated underlayment. Does Oyster already meet that, or do we need to add something separate?

Oyster comes with a pre-attached IXPE backing, which provides some sound attenuation, but whether it meets your specific HOA or condo board’s IIC requirement depends on the number stated in your association’s rules — those vary building to building. Before installation, pull your condo docs or get written confirmation from your board on the required rating. Flooring Queen can review the spec and advise whether additional underlayment is needed to satisfy your building’s threshold.
