Specifications

Ravenna Engineered Hardwood starts at $8.99 per square foot installed in Fort Myers — a wirebrushed European White Oak floor in a warm natural tone that reads honest rather than showy. From LW Flooring’s Renaissance collection, it pairs a 7-1/2-inch wide plank with high color variation, giving each room the kind of organic movement you only get from real oak.

What Ravenna Engineered Hardwood is built for

Ravenna is built for the rooms where Fort Myers homeowners actually live — open-plan great rooms, primary bedrooms, dining areas, and home offices. The engineered construction handles Southwest Florida’s humidity swings better than solid wood, and the three installation methods (float, glue, or nail-down) make it compatible with the concrete slab foundations common throughout the region.

The wirebrushed finish is practical in a coastal setting: the open grain texture masks fine scratches and the sandy grit that drifts in off a lanai or beach road. The lifetime residential warranty gives long-term and snowbird owners alike a floor that holds its ground through seasonal cycles and rental turnovers.

How Ravenna Engineered Hardwood compares

Shoppers who want real wood often weigh engineered hardwood against solid hardwood. Ravenna is genuine European White Oak — just constructed differently. A solid board is milled from one piece of wood all the way through, which means it moves with humidity changes. On a concrete slab in Southwest Florida, that movement causes cupping and gapping over time, which is why solid hardwood is rarely a good match for grade-level Florida installations.

Ravenna’s engineered core resists that movement, making it stable enough to float, glue, or nail over slab. The 3 mm wear layer is thick enough for at least one light sand-and-refinish, which solid hardwood holds an edge on only because solids can typically be refinished more times. For this climate and these foundations, engineered is the more reliable long-term choice.

Care & maintenance

Sweep or vacuum Ravenna daily using a soft-bristle attachment — skip the beater bar, which can abrade the wirebrushed finish over time. For damp cleaning, use a well-wrung microfiber mop with a hardwood-specific cleaner such as Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner or WOCA Wood Floor Soap; avoid steam mops entirely, as concentrated moisture can penetrate the finish and cause the wear layer to swell or delaminate. Never use acidic, ammonia-based, or oil-soap cleaners, which dull the polyurethane finish. Felt pads under furniture legs and an entry mat at exterior doors go a long way toward protecting the surface between cleanings. Frequently asked questions

How long does Ravenna need to sit in my house before the crew can install it?

Plan on at least 3 to 5 days of acclimation in the room where it will be installed. Southwest Florida’s humidity levels are higher than most of the country, so the planks need time to reach equilibrium with your home’s interior climate before installation. Rushing this step can cause gapping or cupping after the floor is down.

Can this floor be sanded and refinished down the road?

Yes — Ravenna’s 3 mm wear layer is thick enough to support at least one light refinish, which extends the floor’s life significantly. That’s not unlimited cycles the way a thick solid board might allow, but for most households one careful refinish adds decades of additional use before replacement becomes necessary.

What’s the difference between engineered and solid hardwood, and why does it matter on a Florida slab?

Engineered hardwood bonds a real oak veneer over a cross-ply core, which resists the expansion and contraction that solid wood experiences with humidity shifts. On a concrete slab — the standard foundation in Southwest Florida — solid hardwood absorbs ground moisture and can cup or gap over time. Engineered construction is the stable, code-appropriate choice for on-grade installations in this climate.

Will water from a spill or a wet dog damage this floor?

Ravenna’s aluminum oxide finish handles routine spills fine if wiped promptly, but this is not a waterproof floor. Standing water that sits long enough will eventually penetrate the wear layer and reach the engineered core, causing swelling or delamination. It is not the right choice for bathrooms, laundry rooms, or any area with regular water exposure.

Does my old tile or vinyl have to come up, or can Ravenna go straight over it?

It depends on the condition and height of what’s already there. Ravenna can be floated or glued over a sound, flat existing surface in some cases, but any high spots, loose tiles, or lippage need to be addressed first. Our crew evaluates the existing substrate during the measurement visit and flags any prep work before the quote is finalized.

Where in the house does this floor work well, and where should I avoid it?

Ravenna is well-suited for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and hallways — anywhere on or above grade where humidity is controlled by air conditioning. Avoid it in bathrooms, laundry rooms, and covered outdoor spaces. Basements are uncommon in Southwest Florida, but below-grade installs are not recommended for engineered wood regardless.
