Osprey Engineered Hardwood starts at $8.99/sq ft installed in Fort Myers — a natural-toned oak floor from LW Flooring’s Odyssey collection with an embossed-in-register texture that closely tracks the grain pattern of real wood. The wide 7-2/3″ plank and nearly five-foot length create an open, relaxed look that suits the way Southwest Florida homes actually live.
The 12mm thickness and click-lock assembly make Osprey a practical choice for concrete slab construction, which is the foundation under most homes in Lee County. The aluminum oxide finish and AC4-rated melamine wear layer hold up to heavy foot traffic, pet claws, and the kind of sandy grit that gets tracked in from outdoor living.
Southwest Florida’s humidity swings — especially in hurricane season — can stress flooring joints over time. Engineered oak is dimensionally more stable than solid wood in those conditions, and the painted beveled edge gives each plank a clean boundary, so minor seasonal movement doesn’t telegraph across the floor surface.

Flooring Queen installs Osprey at $8.99 per square foot, and that price covers the whole job: delivery to your home, removal of the existing floor covering, standard subfloor cleaning and preparation, the installation itself, new baseboards, and transition strips between rooms. When the crew leaves, they take everything with them.
Heavy subfloor leveling, stair nosing, complex room layouts, or custom inlays will add to the base price — those variables get priced out on-site. Call or click to schedule a free in-home measure and you’ll walk away with a written cost breakdown before any work is committed.
Osprey is engineered oak, not solid oak — that distinction matters more in Southwest Florida than almost anywhere else. Solid hardwood expands and contracts with humidity in ways that can cause cupping, gapping, and squeaking on slab foundations. Engineered construction — a real oak veneer bonded to layered core material — handles those moisture swings considerably better, which is why most flooring professionals default to engineered for Florida installs.
Where solid hardwood has the edge: very thick planks can be sanded and refinished multiple times over decades, giving a longer potential lifespan. Osprey’s AC4 wear layer is durable, but refinishing options are limited compared to a 3/4″ solid plank. If you’re building a forever home and humidity is controlled year-round, solid is worth considering. For most Florida households, engineered is the more practical call.
| Osprey | Solid Hardwood | |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | Better — stable on humid slabs | Poor — cups and gaps with moisture |
| Scratch resistance / wear layer | AC4 aluminum oxide finish | Varies; no rated wear layer |
| Comfort underfoot | Firm, warm wood feel | Firm, warm wood feel |
| Installed price | $8.99/sq ft installed | Typically $10–$14/sq ft installed |
| Best room | Living areas, bedrooms, main floor | Dry rooms with humidity control |
Sweep or vacuum with a hard-floor setting regularly — fine sand and grit are the primary culprits for scratching an aluminum oxide finish over time. For damp mopping, use a well-wrung mop and a hardwood-specific cleaner such as Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner; avoid soaking the floor or letting standing water sit near seams and beveled edges, where moisture can wick into the core. Skip steam mops entirely — the heat and pressure can raise the wear layer and cause joint swelling. Never use oil soaps, wax-based products, or acidic household cleaners, as these leave residue that dulls the finish and can void the warranty. For technical guidance, see the National Wood Flooring Association consumer hardwood information.
Plan for 48 to 72 hours of acclimation inside the installation space before the crew starts. In Southwest Florida’s humidity — especially if the home has been closed up or the AC has been off — the planks need time to reach equilibrium with indoor conditions. Stack boxes flat, keep the HVAC running, and don’t skip this step.
Osprey’s melamine wear layer is not designed for sanding and refinishing the way a thick solid hardwood plank would be. AC4 is a durable surface rating for scratch and abrasion resistance in daily use, but the layer does not have the depth to survive a drum sander pass. When the finish wears through, replacement is the practical path.
The click-lock system can often float over a firmly bonded, flat existing surface — tile included — but the keyword is flat. Any high spots, loose tiles, or height transitions at doorways need to be addressed beforehand. During our in-home measure, the installer will assess the existing floor and flag anything that requires correction before Osprey goes down.
The aluminum oxide finish and AC4 wear layer resist surface moisture well, but Osprey is not a waterproof floor. Prolonged standing water near seams, especially along the painted beveled edges, can reach the core and cause swelling. Clean up spills promptly and keep wet-area exposure — laundry rooms, baths — to other flooring categories.
A single room usually wraps in one day once the old floor is out and the subfloor is prepped. A whole home — 1,200 to 1,800 square feet — commonly runs two to three days. Click-lock installs move efficiently, but room count, furniture moving, and any subfloor work discovered on-site affect the final schedule. Your written quote will include a projected timeline.
LW Flooring backs Osprey with a lifetime residential warranty and a 15-year light commercial warranty. Residential coverage addresses manufacturing defects in the wear layer and finish under normal use. The warranty does not cover damage from standing water, improper installation, or failure to follow the manufacturer’s care guidelines — so keeping records of your installation and maintenance is worthwhile.
Engineered hardwood is the only wood we recommend over SWFL slabs, and we install it every week. Our team handles substrate moisture testing, layout, install, and trim from one source. Written installed quote: (239) 763-0770.
