Why laminate

Why choose
laminate flooring?

Laminate gives you the warm, authentic look of real hardwood for a fraction of the price — AC-rated and remarkably scratch- and dent-resistant, water-resistant for everyday spills, and right at home in Southwest Florida living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways.

It’s a multi-layer build: a dense high-density fiberboard (HDF) core holds the plank stable, a high-resolution photographic décor layer creates the realistic wood look with embossed grain you can feel, and a clear AC-rated melamine wear layer takes the daily abuse from kids, pets, and furniture. The floating click-lock planks install right over most subfloors with no glue. Laminate is water-resistant rather than waterproof, so it’s ideal for dry living spaces — for bathrooms and laundry rooms we’ll steer you to waterproof vinyl or tile.

Care & maintenance

How to care for your laminate floors

Laminate is one of the easiest floors to live with — a simple routine keeps it looking new for years, and the only real rule is to keep standing water off it.

  • Sweep or dry dust-mop often — sandy grit from the beach is what wears any floor
  • Damp-mop only — never a soaking-wet mop or a steam mop, and wipe spills right away
  • Felt pads under furniture legs and a mat at entryways protect the wear layer

Water-resistant for everyday life

A sealed AC-rated surface sheds the spills, splashes, and tracked-in rain of daily living — just wipe them up promptly. Laminate is water-resistant rather than waterproof, so it’s perfect for living areas, bedrooms, and hallways (we recommend vinyl or tile for bathrooms).

Scratch & dent resistant

An AC-rated melamine wear layer stands up to pets, furniture, and heavy foot traffic, resists fading from Florida sun, and cleans up with a quick sweep and damp-mop. The AC rating tells you exactly how much wear each product is built to take.

Installation

What’s included in installation

Our $4.50/sq ft installed price covers the full job on projects of 400 sq ft or more — a free in-home measure, a written quote before any work begins, materials and delivery, and everything below.

Professional installation

Certified technicians handle standard floor prep, on-site acclimation, click-lock plank installation, and resetting your baseboards and transition strips room to room.

We move your furniture

Furniture moving plus removal and haul-away of your old carpet, vinyl sheet, or tile are included — no heavy lifting and no separate dumpster to book.

Fast, low-disruption

Most whole-home installs finish in one to two days, and floating click-lock planks need no curing time — move furniture back and walk on your floors the same day.

A few things are quoted separately: concrete slabs out of level by more than 3/16 inch over 10 ft need grinding or self-leveling; stairs, herringbone and custom borders, and hard-to-access upper floors carry added labor; and projects under 400 sq ft are priced per project. Call (239) 763-0770 for a firm number before you commit.

Local expertise

Built for Southwest Florida

We’ve installed flooring here for 20+ years. Here’s exactly how laminate handles our climate — humidity, spills, heat, and sand — and the few things worth knowing.

Humidity & acclimation

Humidity sits at 80%+ from June through October. We let the planks acclimate in your home for a day or two and leave a proper expansion gap around each room, so laminate stays flat and stable through the seasons.

Spills & wet areas

Laminate is water-resistant, not waterproof, so wipe up spills promptly before water sits on the seams. For bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other wet areas we’ll steer you to waterproof luxury vinyl or porcelain tile instead.

Summer heat — snowbird tip

Closing up a slab home with the AC off lets heat and humidity build. If you head north for the season, hold the thermostat at 85°F or below rather than switching it off, to keep humidity from stressing the floor.

Beach sand & grit

Sandy grit acts like sandpaper on the wear layer over time. A mat at each entry and a regular dry sweep in high-traffic zones keep the finish looking new for years.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Everything you need to know about laminate flooring — and if we missed anything, just call.

Reviewed by Jack Maya, Lead Installer at Flooring Queen — 20+ years installing flooring in Southwest Florida.Updated June 2026

Is laminate flooring waterproof?
No. Modern laminate is water-resistant, not waterproof. The AC-rated melamine wear layer sheds surface spills, and water-resistant lines hold off moisture for several hours, but the dense HDF core can swell if water sits or seeps into the seams. Wipe spills promptly. For bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other wet areas we recommend waterproof luxury vinyl or porcelain tile instead.
Where should laminate be installed, and where should it not?
Laminate is an excellent choice for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, dining rooms, and home offices — anywhere you want a warm, realistic wood look at a budget-friendly price. Avoid full bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other rooms that see standing water. Those spaces are a better fit for waterproof luxury vinyl plank or porcelain tile.
How durable is laminate flooring?
Very. A tough AC-rated melamine wear layer over a high-density fiberboard core makes laminate one of the most scratch-, dent-, and fade-resistant floors you can buy. The AC rating (AC3 for homes, AC4 to AC5 for heavy or commercial traffic) tells you exactly how much wear a product is built to take, so it stands up to kids, pets, and furniture.
How long does installation take?
Most whole-home laminate installs in the 1,000–1,500 sq ft range finish in one to two days. The planks click together and float over the subfloor with no glue or curing time, so furniture move-in and light foot traffic are usually fine the same day. The boards do need to acclimate in the home for a day or two beforehand, which we build into the schedule.
How well does laminate hold up in Southwest Florida humidity?
Properly acclimated laminate is stable in SWFL homes. We let the planks adjust to your home for a day or two before installing and leave the manufacturer expansion gap around the room so the floor can move with seasonal humidity. If you head north for the season, hold the AC at about 85 degrees rather than shutting it off, especially in slab homes, to keep humidity in check.
How do I clean and care for laminate floors?
Sweep or dry dust-mop often to clear the sandy grit that wears any floor, then clean with a damp, well-wrung mop — never a soaking-wet one, and never a steam mop. Wipe spills right away so water cannot sit on the seams, use felt pads under furniture legs, and place mats at entries. No wax or polish is needed.
